  • I live in downtown Dallas. The streets were icy and had already black ice which is dangerous. Now listening an asshole on the road playing like this was a game really. I have a Range Rover and I drove slow in winter mode and I was sliding so I went home and stayed there like many SMART people did. These douchebags are responsible for all those accidents which were major in this wintry situation. I have lived in Connecticut before so I knew how to drive in snow but still I was careful.

  • I live in Wisconsin, I've driven tens of thousands of miles on ice. I don't personally get bothered by it but I'm here to tell you....it's not for everyone. I can't imagine what it must've been like for Texans to deal with it, for even a week.

  • Heh, I grew up in Mich, now living in Buffalo. I've always had 4WD. Even then, I knew better than to drive to work on bad roads. I had one foreman who was giving me some shit saying "You have a 4WD, you should be able to make it to work". I told him that I have 4WD so that I can GET HOME from work, not to get to work. Guess who got a write up the next day? THIS GUY!

  • A few months ago I went for a drive with my dad on the back roads, it had snowed and rained a bit but the roads were fine. I made a right... everythings fine, then we see a car in the ditch up the road so i figured id stop and make sure everythings ok, let off the gas, just barely touch the brake and the abs is going crazy, the rear swings out and the road is pure ice. I kept it under control but my dad was having a heart attack because he just bought the car, and here's 18 year old me sliding it down an icy road with a ditch that's probably 5 feet deep. Finally got it to a stop, and there's fire trucks and everything up the road, its blocked off by 2 cop cars. We ended up switching and we could barely stand because of how icy it was. It was definitely an interesting ride home

  • When did it occur to you that you were going to have to drive those roads back home. I drove long haul, weather like that is time to call and reschedule. I drove 4 million accident free miles, learned in the oilfields, in a Texas winter. Nothing scares me, but, I know when it is stupid dangerous to leave the truck stop, or even my own driveway. Thankfully, you made it back home intact, right?

  • Talking about driving in snow/ice in Texas is all it takes to get on here now? Sign me up 😂 Seriously Texans suck at snow driving. Growing up in the northern part of Michigan, I don't trust any of them when it snows... Plus their cars all have summer / "all season" tires 365

  • 6:40 i put some CHEAP "cooper evo winter" tires on my 99 buick century its like stopping in the rain..... but on snow . HUGE HUGE improvement.... you really dont think they can help as much as they do . and i live in NE montana..... its 200 hours below 32f EVERY winter we just drive slow.....we just accept that its cold, and the roads are crap . but winter tires..... i wont go a season with out them again . NE MT usually doesnt get ice.... but it can freezing rain or simply it melts and then freezes at night . but studded snow tires..... now we are taking! . . . . . but seriously..... WINTER tires are bad ass literally feels like stopping in a hard rain on all seasons.........even in a 302,000 mile 99 buick century

  • Born and raised in central Texas. I can confirm that even slight precipitation will completely disable drivers in Texas. We don't keep two sets of wheels with separate summer and winter tires. "All-season" tires really do get us through all the seasons, LOL. Even the threat of inclement weather will shut down schools and business, here, before a single snowflake has fallen. People here hit a patch of ice - game over. Call a tow truck, call the insurance company... It's sad. I've gone to the shoulder at 65mph, in a two-wheel drive sedan and passed lines of cars struggling to get up an icy hill on a three-lane highway. Bunch of Gumbys that don't know the fundamentals of driving on ice/snow/water.

Wasn’t anything I’m not used to but it was a little sketchy that’s for sure. Saw lots of flipped trucks and cars. Slow down people! Only momentum for the uphills.

  • So what was described here is a balmy, casual fall or spring day (take your pick) try all of that ice plus 4-8 feet of snow and a snow storm. And there’s no lee way for actually making it to work on time.

  • I only slid through 3 red lights on the way to work that Monday. But the power was out at my store and the generator didn't turn so we didn't open. After we figured out how to keep from losing thousands of dollars worth of cold merchandise by letting in the 19 degree air, I went into the back parking lot and did donuts in the snow. It' was a good day.

  • Last winter I had to take a run at a snowdrift to get out of my driveway...going downhill which was all of my good graces because I would never have made it back up the driveway without pushing a trail through first, but I had my front and rear diffs locked and I just sent it...the snow drift was about the height of the hood of my ZR2 for probably 70 or 80 feet. In hindsight I should have just plowed it with the tractor first, but that would have made me late for work, and fortunately I made it through. It was light fluffy snow, which is the only reason I tried in the first place but I almost didn't make it. I know people in warm locales aren't prepared for cold weather driving...the road infrastructure isn't there, no plows, people don't have proper tires, people don't have experience in the proper way to drive in said conditions, I get it. I do still find it funny how something that some of us deal with for 4-6 months of the year can cripple another place when they have to deal with it for a few days. We're just getting done with snow here...I'm a bit sad actually that I can't drive around ever corner fully sideways in slow motion because snow drifting really is a lot of fun.

  • So cute to see all the "no snow" states try to operate in snow. Its downright hilarious when they meet ice. All those "modes" new cars come with are pretty much useless in ice. Turn off traction control and roll the dice. I've managed a couple winters in my RWD G37 coupe with all seasons in NE ohio with that approach. I will say all seasons worked way better than the summer tires did that 1st winter. I originally stored the car during the winter but Ed's videos convinced me that a car is meant to be driven and a car that sits in a garage isn't as fun.
