  • not too long ago my and 2 of my buddies were in our local city taking pictures of our cars and on the way back my two buddies were racing it was a wrx and a bolt on g35 and on a notorious road where i got pulled over once before they got nabbed by a undercover kia stinger i never expected it and made a joke oh he wants to race them and as my 2 friends pull into their neighborhood i see the blue lights as i sneak by in neutral. the officer caught them doing 90 in a 45 and drag racing and let them go because he knows they wouldn’t be paying for the ticket and it would be their parents, i sat in a parking lot waiting for a call to come pick them up and take them home i was sure they were going to jail for a night.

Unless he has been ticketed for bitching about how he'd like to show you what the car could do if the rear view mirror was in correct alignment or if the ashtray closed all the way.. ETC.

Honestly I was going much faster so he really did me a huge favor. Fought it as much as I could but still ended up with a $750 ticket 2 points and a misdemeanor. Couldn't believe I didn't go to jail. I'm just lucky he didn't radar me. Respect and just taking the L goes a long way😂

  • If its your first serious offense, the government typically just wants money. You hire a lawyer and tell them you want to be put on probation, no points, tell them you'll pay whatever. I was caught street racing in MD, the cop gave me enough infractions to make me suspend my license and technically a felony. Whatever you do, if you get pulled over, just answer the basic questions and don't make the situation memorable that the cop would want to show up to court. I didn't show up in court, my lawyer took care of it. I think I ended up paying around $1500 and was on probation before guilty for 6 months.

  • What could have been the worst day of my life back in ‘12. I was leaving college in Waco,Tx to visit my dad in Austin. Soon after I got on I-35 south started racing some Yamaha crotch rocket. (Don’t remember the model) weaving between traffic, going between 90 and my ‘06 Honda Civic DX’s top speed of 137 mph. It was somewhere after Belton and before Georgetown that I blew past a sheriff between two semi’s in the slow lane in a posted 70 area. After a few minutes at top speed, got in the slow lane, reduced speed to 80 and waited for the inevitable. For a minute or so the biker turned around on his bike and waved for me to come one and keep going but I shakes my head and he took off. A few minutes later the sheriff caught up but he was parallel with me and not behind me, and just kept looking at me pointedly. I reduced my speed to 70 and he took off. Took the first exit, got out, smoked a cigarette and got back on the interstate. (I know it could have been a very bad day if he chose so) since then have done the 10% rule and not had any trouble. Only doing triple digits when I’ve been on the 130 toll which is mostly posted 85.

  • I had an eye injury in 2003 playing rugby and was blinded in my right eye. I fully regained my sight, but my right eye is light sensitive now after a long day. If it's bad I have to turn down all the lights in the car (radio, dash, etc) if i'm driving and sometimes even have to wear sunglasses at night to cut the glare. About ten years later, i'm driving home to LA from Phoenix and get nicked for 104mph. He's asking me why i'm going so fast, i can get arrested, car impounded etc. I explain "I'm sorry my car (95 Mercedes E320) feels exactly the same at 60 or however fast I was going, it's just quiet, unbothered and completely and non- plussed. I had to turn down the lights because this eye is very light sensitive" I take off the sunglasses and my right eye is red. And angry. It does that when the glare bothers it. He writes me the ticket. I go to court. Blythe California. All the other cases go before me and it's a trainwreck. A procession of multiple offenses and several repeat offenders: DUIs. Suspended license. No registration. No insurance. Failure to Appear. Truancy. Everybody has multiple charges. And everybody doesn't have all three requirements to legally drive; valid license, current registration, current insurance. Some are missing one, some two, some all three. But it's EVERYBODY. Everybody except me and 2 other guys; A new truck driver who didn't have his medical card, and a dude from Arizona who was also doing 100+. Every body is getting $100- $200 fine and community service, or similar. One guy had several FTAs and was in court on a suspended license with no registration or insurance for the vehicle he was driving. And yes, he was under the influence. He gets a small fine and community service. I'm really impressed with the compassion the judge is demonstrating to everybody, showing a real human side to the judicial system. I get hopeful. Truck driver gets off with court costs when he shows his medical card. More miscreants. Guy from Arizona is one of the last ones. $1000. Disappointing. He has valid license, reg, insurance, like me his only infraction is speeding. I'm tired already at this point. I'm up. "Why were you going so fast?" I explain that my car doesn't care how fast you're going, it all feels like 60. I explain the eye. But I don't go into detail because it's been nearly 6 hours since I woke up, I haven't eaten, i'm tired and hungry, I had to drive nearly three hours just to get there, and just want this to be over. She gives me a lecture about we take a dim view of speeding here, blah blah, blah, $1071. I'm flabbergasted. All the people who went before me except for 2, just the 2, not only were lacking a license, registration, or insurance (some two of those, some ALL THREE,) but were also under the influence, had other infractions, the one who had multiple FTAs, etc, were getting compassion and fines, and I was getting 5X the fine they were getting, while I had a valid license, valid registration, valid insurance, and my ONLY infraction was speeding. I was about to point that out and I decided i'd already had enough. Home was still 3 hours away, I needed to eat and I needed to get out that dystopian hellscape. I was offered a slightly lesser fine plus too much (two full time work weeks maybe?) community service. I could do that in my home county in LA. I just wrote the check and left because fuck that place.

  • Circa 2005...I was clocked at 178mph on a motorcycle at 4am on the Turner Turnpike. Didn’t get stopped until after I got into the city and had gotten back on the highway after having stopped for gas, so maybe 20 mins or so after he apparently clocked me back on the turnpike. He let me go because he couldn’t prove that it had been me back on the turnpike. He gave me props for being the fastest he’d ever personally clocked.

  • I was 18 or 19 and driving to work in rush hour. Thought I'd be slick and hop in the HOV lane to cut around some slow traffic. The van in front of me swerved out of the HOV lane ahead of me, revealing to me a cop standing on foot in the HOV lane, wide stanced like a linebacker, waving people out of the lane. I got out of the lane as quickly as the van did and continued down the road. Then I saw his lights coming from way behind me. I prayed he wasn't coming for me but he was, so as soon as he got behind me I pulled over. He jumped out like, "Why are you evading!? Why didn't you pull over??" I was like wtf! I didn't see anyone tell me to pull over. He said he waved to me to pull over, I thought he was just waving me to get over into the next lane like the van ahead of me and the cars ahead of the van. A cop on a motorcycle came up and joined him and they stood behind my cat laughing and talking for about 35min just like this guy's story. Luckily they didn't smell anything in the car 👀. I just got an HOV lane ticket but I would've been so pissed if he got me evading. He was probably laughing with his buddy about how much he scared me when he said that.

  • Speaking of Virginia I got busted for doing 78 in a 55 mph zone. I was driving my sisters Chevy Traverse with the family heirloom in tow, a 1970 Searay SRV 190. While it has enough power for the load it is very lacking in compression braking when compared to my 1985 Monte Carlo's GMPP HT383. It also didn't help that I didn't know what the secret was to force a downshift. Anyhow a metro Detroit resident in Virginia getting stopped for 23 over the limit in Virginia is facing some potential "problems". Good news for me is that my driving record was spotless and police nowadays have access to that type of information. Another plus may have been my Michigan CPL which I handed to the officer with my license. Note State Troopers or any Cop can get rather upset when a simple record check comes back with a carry permit. However if you inform ahead of that little tidbit coming over the radio it's considered as someone being courteous. The final plus is that I didn't lie to the officer and didn't argue about how I should be let go, I simply explained I wasn't paying attention to the speedometer when I hit that hill. Anyhow he ended up citing me for 64 in a 55 and didn't charge me with reckless driving. A month later I drove back to to go to court in New Bedford, VA with a notarized copy of my driving record and went before the Judge and told my story. The Judge asked the officer if my story matched what I said to him when he stopped my and that officer stated it was the same. The Judge then asked about my demeanor during the stop and the officer stated that I was quite pleasant. At that point the Judge turned to me and said that he was going to put me on a 6 month "probation" and if I was clean during that period nothing would go on my record and the fine was 138.00 dollars. Point is, if you get stopped by the police make it a point to be cooperative and pleasant with him. Because the police are ONLY tasked with enforcing the Law, they do not have any power to change the Law at all. Yes, they can give you a warning but that will ONLY happen if you are nice and it usually only happens to those with nothing on their driving record. Second, GO TO COURT. In most cases if you show up in court and go No Contest a simple explanation in addition to having been nice to the officer will result in the Judge putting you on Probation. Do that every time you get a ticket and in time you'll have nothing on your record which will typically result in nothing but Probation or warnings for future minor offenses. Note DUI or Texting while driving is NOT a minor offense, for that you need to hire a Lawyer.

  • When Ford came out with its first Harley truck we bought the one at the local Ford dealership in Indio California. After having it for 3 weeks I was coming home from work early Sunday morning there was no traffic was about 5:30 in the summertime. I decided to see what it could do and floored it. The speedometer peg then the truck still kept increasing speed when I flew by an intersection where California highway patrol was just coming up to the stop sign. At the time I passed the intersection I was doing about 140/150. I let my foot off the gas and let him catch up to me I just pulled over and waited. He asked me if I knew how fast I was going I told him no but I know I pegged it about a ways back and it was still climbing when I shot past the intersection. When I gave him my driver's license he saw it was license to ride motorcycles as well and we got to talking about Harleys which he rode as well. I told him I work for the school district during the week and delivered papers early in the morning 7 days a week. He let me off with a warning saying he liked the truck but to try and drive a little safer and to go home and get some sleep. I FEEL LIKE I CAN SAY AT THIS POINT THAT I'D LUCKED OUT BIG TIME!!!!!!

  • Been there. My old job would punish you for going on vacation. You got 8 days off, but you had to work 11 days straight leading up to it. I was running a restaurant that just happened to offer free meals to the local PD. I do my 11 days, jump in my car, and fly to pick up the wife and get on the road. Hit the expressway, andl et it loose. (C63) I pass an on ramp, and look back to see a state trooper. I tried to toast him, but got caught at a red light. He pulls me over, and says "I clocked you at 84, but it took me 121 to catch up. Speed limit is 55." He just happened to be a local that got a promotion to state and recognized me. He gave me 5 over and I was on my way.

  • Try doing this in Finland and you'll find your drivers license is immediately gone and you get a fine worth about two months salary before taxes. Fines are progressive here in Finland and if you have high income, fine for speeding can be way over $100000! And that's not negotiable.

  • I got a ticket going 110 thru traffic to santa cruz the same day my dad got pulled over going 100 thru traffic, but he got a ticket for going 80, I got a ticket for going 110, and we did traffic school together. When the cop pulled me over, he asked me, so what happens if I take your car right now, how would you get back home (I was ~150 miles from home) I said Chevro-legs (Back in 2004 I thought it would be funny) and he laughed. Told me if I go 1 mph over the speed limit I goto jail. I said thank you officer. Nice! 104, Way to get a ticket above 100mph!

  • Most states have a law that speed 15 mph over the posted speed limit get a reckless driving charge which can result in jail time, license suspension, an huge fines.

  • I was driving about 105 when i went under this overpass there was a Cop tucked away in the median so you couldn't see him as I came up. So I decided I will get off the next exit. As I get off the exit I pull into a McDonalds I park near the door and I look in my rear view mirror and see the Cop Pulling in. So I jump out of the Car and the Cop says on his loudspeaker get back in your car. I yell to him I know I was speeding and i know i am getting a ticket but if i don't get to the Bathroom I am going to Shit my Pants. I run into McDonalds into the bathroom. I stay in there for like 10 minutes and I come out to my Car. The Cop gets out of his car and says with a smile "Is everything OK now" and him and I break out laughing. I told him thank you for letting me go to the Bathroom and he ended up letting me go!

  • I got pulled over my Florida highway patrol near Orlando. I got a ticket for about $350ish dollars for 3 or 4 points, this was like 15 years ago. I was clocked at 125 mph in a 75. I was told I could be arrested for it if they wanted to take me. I was actually doing 150ish, they got me after I spotted them and was slowly down.

  • Washington resident. Seems like cops sometimes don't care about speed. We were passed by some people doing 90 maybe and we were going close to 80, they passed a cop and weren't stopped. I think he got pretty lucky he was here in WA.

  • this just makes me hate the justice system exponentially more than before. the law should be fair and equal for everyone and this just further proves that the right lawyer/prosecutor is the difference between 2 drastically different penalties.

  • I got pulled over for doing 164km/h ( 102mph ) on a 80km/h zone ( 50 mph ) My license was suspended for 7months, I got a total of 610€ ( 730$ ) in fines, and had to take a risk counselling course (+150€ / +180$ on top of the other fine) So, was it worth it? Actually yes.
